About the Event
Historical themed bleach painting workshop with Artist Emilie Pickett
In this workshop we'll be bringing permanence back to our Welsh history by creating images of Welsh historical events/topics
with bleach on fabric.
We'll be looking at history such as the Chartists, welsh mining and Mari Lwyd.
Pickett reinterprets and rediscovers Welsh history by drawing from Welsh culture, mythology and historical events. She translates these into works on fabric using bleach. Pickett is interested in the juxtaposition between stained and permanent images and the deteriorating Welsh language and culture. Her works on the material are often layered with paint and other materials and suspended in space.
Bleach is a medium perceived as permanent as you cant remove it and this has become a metaphor to Emilie's personal artistic research.
